Kentrell Gaulden was indicted in federal court in the Central District of California in conjunction with what the FBI called “Operation Never Free Again” following his arrest on March 22, 2021, after a firearm was located in his vehicle. An extensive trial before the Honorable Judge Klausner took place over the course of four days involving hundreds of exhibits and over a dozen witnesses. At trial, the team was able to effectively foster reasonable doubt by highlighting the lack of physical evidence connecting the firearm to Mr. Gaulden and the uncertainty with regard to where the firearm was found and whether it was even visible. The closing argument delivered by Mr. Manasseh seared the defense’s theme “This Gun, This Place, This Time” in the mind of the jury ensuring that they would not convict him on the basis of things he may have done in his past. At the end of the day, after nearly five hours of deliberation, the jury returned a verdict acquitting Mr. Gaulden of the charge for which he always maintained he “never was guilty”.
